This simple monthly challenge is replacing traditional ‘Goal Setting’ and you need to know about it
What if the secret to finally achieving your business dreams wasn't about having it all figured out, but about getting comfortable with not having it all figured out?
Here's the truth: most business advice tells you to set SMART goals, create detailed action plans, and execute flawlessly. But real life? Real life is messy. Kids get sick, clients change their minds, technology breaks down, and sometimes you just don't feel like doing the thing you said you'd do.
That's exactly why we created our signature monthly challenge, Messy Mission of the Month™.
What Is Messy Mission of the Month?
Every month, our She Owns It members choose one meaningful business action and commit to working toward it with support from our community. Not in isolation. Not with the pressure of perfection. But with the understanding that progress beats perfection every single time.
It might be launching that service you've been thinking about for months, finally updating your website, reaching out to potential collaborators, or even just setting up systems you've been avoiding. The goal isn't to have it all figured out before you start—it's to start before you have it all figured out.
Why This Approach Actually Works
Traditional goal-setting often fails because it assumes linear progress and perfect conditions. But business growth happens in the messy middle—when you're figuring it out as you go, learning from what doesn't work, and adjusting course along the way.
Sandra, one of our members, captured this perfectly when she shared why she loves showing up for it each month:
1. MOTM is a shame free / blame free environment ( I have had a couple of times where I've dropped off the radar a little - but always know that I can jump right back in and get my focus back on track for the next month ahead.)
2. I've gotten to connect with some amazing women in this group
3. I find it easier to help other people than focus on myself, so when fellow Support Squad members check in with me - It helps me to stop and think about what I'm doing and where I'm heading.
4. The MOTM keeps me focussing on my business for me - helps me make the time to work ON the business strategy and planning which is easy to park in lieu of the fun stuff!
5. The biggest thing is, is that for me - if I say what I'm doing out loud (or in writing) to other people then I HAVE to do what I said I was going to do and it's also helping me be more realistic with my own goals!
This is the magic of Messy Mission—it meets you where you are, not where you think you should be.
How It Works
Each month, you share your Mission with the group. It could be as big as launching a new program or as little as finishing writing a new email sequence or submitting your GST return.
Throughout the month, we check in weekly—celebrating wins, troubleshooting challenges, and reminding each other that progress isn't always linear. Sometimes you'll crush your mission. Sometimes you'll pivot halfway through. Sometimes you'll realize the mission wasn't right for you at all.
All of it counts. All of it teaches you something. All of it moves you forward.
The Best Part? It's Included
If you're in our She Owns It Member Directory, Messy Mission of the Month is automatically included in your membership. No additional cost, no separate sign-up required. Just show up as you are, set your intention, and let the community support you in making it happen.
Because here's what we've learned: the women who consistently take messy action—who start before they're ready, who share their goals before they have all the steps figured out, who keep going even when it doesn't look like they imagined—these are the women who build the businesses and lives they actually want.
Your business doesn't need to be perfect to be profitable. Your strategy doesn't need to be flawless to be effective. You don't need to have it all figured out to get started.
You just need to be willing to take the next messy step.
