As I write this- my first blog post ever for She Owns It, I'm one part excited about what’s to come, and one part ‘OMG what was I thinking?!’
I have a young family. I already have a business. I'm grateful to have scaled out of it but it is still my first baby and my responsibility. Above is my amazing business partner Karen (due to have her first baby in December!) and the KiwiOz Nannies London team. We’re doing a renovation. I’m swimming uphill at the moment to even fit in time with my family and my friends, or to exercise. I must be seriously crazy to be taking this on as well! But then I sit back and think about the 1400+ NZ women like you who have joined me at She Owns It over the last few months. You are ALL busy. Many of you have much much more going on in your lives than me. Some of you have three or four children. Some of you are working full time jobs while raising families and starting a business. Some of you have overcome harrowing life experiences- or are in the throes of them- and you still want to be challenging yourselves and putting yourselves through the rigiours of entrepreneurship. One of you even attended a webinar while having contractions (no names in public- you know who you are you incredible/ dedicated/ passionate mum and business woman!). And it’s when I think about all that you are going through- that WE are going through, I know that this is all going to be worth it. I started She Owns It because I work from home and I felt isolated, and frustrated. I wanted to feel connected to a community of women in business. I wanted to give back and share some of the experiences that I've had, so that your journey to scaling your business is faster and smoother than mine was! I've already got back tenfold what I have contributed to the She Owns It community. I've made friends. Gathered a loyal team of supporters and advisors around me. Learnt more and more every day about community building, empathy and developing strong culture. This business has become a facilitator for positive change for me, for you, and for NZ women in general. It has become a place where you can come and share you business problems to get quick answers from your peers. To learn from others about how to become a better entrepreneur. To collaborate and push your business to the next level. So what now for She Owns It? Today is the first day on a new leg of this journey. We are on this journey together you and I, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to you for being a part of it so far. My dream is that She Owns It becomes the first place NZ women in business turn to get support on their business journey. No matter what stage of the journey you are at- from total newby to experienced entrepreneur, I want you to know that this is the place to find the connections and support you need to overcome that obstacle and uplevel your business. There is a place for you here in She Owns It, and we want to see you and you thrive. Please know that She Owns It is an entry level business platform and it is NOT a one stop shop! It's a community, a resource and we depend on all of you to help us create a thriving base for the female entrepreneurs of New Zealand. From here, NZ women in business will be able to find you and your business. You'll be able to speak to them on a personal level, offer support to others and help them get to know and trust you. So let’s do this together ladies! Let’s figure out and help each other reach our goals. There is a way forward that will work well for you, for us as women and as a community. Together we can navigate this tricky path and make it smoother for ourselves, and for the women of the future. Are you with me?
