Do you ever see a brand that really stands out from the crowd and wonder why? What special magic are they using that makes them so remarkable? And how can you get your hands on summa that?! If you want to be one of those brands then read on because today we're talking three simple things you can do right now to up your branding game. I'm so passionate about this topic because once I figured this out in my business I went from tentative, shy marketer (who generally felt scared of 'spamming' people) to confident, passionate brand ambassador happy to shout to the rooftops about why my business is different (and better for my target customer) than the rest. So here goes! 1. Start tellin' it like it is In case you haven't noticed we all love a good story. Storytelling is part of the human fabric- it's been around for years and you only need to take a look at the movies or even Facebook Live and Instagram Stories to see that it is still a huge part of how we engage socially. This means that when you open up and start telling your story- people are going to listen. So take some time to think about what YOUR biz story actually is and how that matters to or inspires your customers. Most business owners are still lagging behind with this so if you start telling your story you'll already be a step ahead. As a small business this is one of the all time best things you can do to differentiate yourself from the bigger players in the market. They've outgrown that small, local business stage and that means there's a great opportunity for YOU to fill the gap. People want to support small business so start giving them a reason to by helping them get to know you. 2. Your secret herbs and spices OK so you're not the Colonel but guess what? You've got some secret spices of your own baby. Yup. That's right. There ain't no other person doing what you do in the way that you do it- with your unique personality, flair and systems. So what the heck is it that makes YOU different? And how does that translate into your business? Consider this. Have you noticed how many inspirational businesses promote their company values on their website? If you haven't come across this yet just check out businesses like Squarespace and Infusionsoft. The thing is, if you want your team to feel passionate about their work and consumers to feel they have a relationship with your brand, then you need to know what you're values and biz personality traits are as well. So start thinking! Look to yourself and spend some time defining who you truly are. Help people understand and feel aligned with your values. What do you stand for and what change does your business want to contribute to in this world? That special place where your values combine with your customers values is where the magic happens for your brand. 3. Get out of personality paralysis When I first started out in business I had what I like to call personality paralysis (!). We had started a young, innovative and fresh brand but we were talking like the Queen giving her annual Christmas speech. We were spending too much time looking at the other people in our market- and thinking that we had to be like them- and not enough time thinking about us and what made us unique and special. We lost our voice and despite a unique name and niche were coming across as samey samey- insert BIG SIGH here. When we finally clicked and realised the opportunity we were missing out on, we dived into finding out how to define our own brand 'personality.' From the values that made us tick to the copy we used and the images and graphics on our site we started to change things up. Overnight we dropped our stuffiness and became relatable and fun. So take some time to decide on your brand personality and what it is that stands you out. Then start crafting your messages in the tone and with the VIBE that your people will love. If you LOVE the sound of all of this but the idea of actually trying to put it action makes you all kind of 'er no this is never going happen' type scared, then don't worry! Help is at hand.
