** This is an update to a post I shared a couple of years ago - to be noted I'm still up and down with this and still feeling totally inspired by your tips!
--- Let's face it, finding time for self care can be a challenge. I admit I am not alwaysgood at this. Family- I prioritise. Work- I prioritise. But self care? Time to exercise? Hang out with my hubby without kids? See friends? Relax on my own? Seriously, I struggle. I think it's because making a change feels hard- I get stuck in my own head and can't take the first step. It's like self care paralysis! I'm not going to dig into the WHY behind this, because I think it's deep! Self worth, culture, inner dialogues, history all play a part. What I HAVE learnt about making a change though is that when I put what I want out into the world, I'm much more likely to make things happen. So I called out to our community for some tips and as usual, they owned it. The collective wisdom of these women is amazing and today I'm feeling more like I can do this- so thank you to everyone who supported me. I think one of the most powerful things I've learnt from you is to lower my expectations around what I do and the results- especially when I get started- and instead focus on getting out the door and taking that step. If I never take the step, I won't see any results and I'll stay stuck. Just make that first step really easy. There were so many ideas on this thread you have to go and read for yourself, but here are some that really stood out to me: THE 'BADASS MUSIC PLAYLIST' HACK From Esther Tang "I find listening to rebellious music helps. Like musics with kickass lyrics . I’ve got my own playlist on Spotify. Contains some sweary songs though. I listen to them with headphones or blast them when the kids aren’t around." Esther was kind enough to share her Spotify list- enjoy and tag me in to your badass music moments @sheownsitnz for a share to our Stories!: https://spotify.link/xH3JiJZ4MDb THE 'IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MUCH YOU DO' HACK From Heather Willetts Woken Giants "My number 1 non negotiable is a morning mental health walk before work. It can be as little as 10mins or up to 40 depending in my day. But I put my headphones in and play soundtracks from musicals and it ups my mental health *and physical so much!" *I love this one so much because I think this is often what stops me. Feeling like I have to go for at least 45 minutes. SUCH good permission to just go, for however long you can manage that day 🙏🏼 THE 'SUCCESS TODAY LOOKS LIKE THIS HACK' By Josie Askin Spring Coaching "I love writing a list of success for the day & always include some sort of element of self care on it. It could be a walk with the dog at lunch, doing some yoga or scheduling in 15 mins to read a chapter or two of a good book. I find when I classify them as something that would make my day successful I'm more likely to do them and there's none of the usual guilt." THE FIT IT IN AROUND JOBS HACK From Rose Wells, Director at Sticky Ticky "My work around, based on a suggestion from Dad, was to run home from preschool. The walk home usually took 12 minutes, so I would go a longer way and fit in my 25-30 minute run. So it only took 15 minutes out of my day, as I had to walk home anyway. So if you can fit it around something you are already doing, it's easier to make it a habit. Now I do it after I've dropped him off at school." Honestly, I think these are amazing. Do you have a hack that will inspire me or others? Please share in the comments below!
